Peggy Mast has been a consisent, conservative advocate for the people of District 76. Below is just a sample of some of the issues she has fought for in the Legislature:
Education
- Peggy has consistently fought for adequate funding of Kansas schools
and strong local control. Peggy has voted to increase the base state aid every
year she has been in the Legislature.
- In 2003, in the height of the recession when funds were low and a tax
increase seemed imminent to fund Kansas schools, Peggy proposed legislation
that would have increased school funding by $155 million, BUT require that
80% of that money go to classroom resources, such as tools and textbooks,
teacher pay, or teacher insurance costs. Peggy ensures that you get the most
for your tax dollars.
- Peggy's own children are a testament to her commitment to education,
with three
of her children holding bachelors degree's.
Family Values
- Peggy has fought for protecting traditional marriage in the Kansas
Constitution.
- Peggy has also fought to keep taxes low and government intervention in
your life to a minimum. Peggy understands that the government that governs
the least,
governs the best.
Taxes
- Peggy has been a strong advocate of limiting government spending and
making it more efficient and accountable to the taxpayers.
- Peggy has a 95.5% lifetime rating from the Kansas Taxpayers Network,
an organization who's goal is to lower taxes in the state of Kansas. Peggy has
the record, through good and bad times, of holding the line for the Kansas
taxpayer.
Health Care
- Affordable health care is very important to Peggy. With the
skyrocketing costs, even Peggy herself has had trouble affording quality health
care. Peggy has supported allowing small communities to band together
to buy health insurance with the same buying power as a large corporation.
- Peggy has been an advocate of allowing communities to also band
together to buy cheaper prescription drugs, just like large corporations.
Another solution that Peggy has advocated is buying prescription drugs in bulk
that perform the same functions for state employees. This would reduce the
overall cost of prescription drugs to the state.
Businesses and Jobs
- Peggy believes that jobs and our economy are probably the highest
concern of the people in her district. The way to business growth and
therefore job growth, is to reduce Kansas taxes. Reducing state taxes is the
only sure way to bring new businesses into our state and to keep the ones we
already have.
- Peggy is also a strong advocate of the new bioscience initiative,
introduced this past legislative session. The purpose of this new initiative is to
attract new bioscience jobs and industries to Kansas - a perfect match with
the strong agricultural economy we already have!
Gun Control
- Peggy supports second amendment rights and legislation that allows
citizens to keep and bear arms. Peggy has supported those rights in the past
and will continue to do so in the future.
- Peggy voted for conceal and carry legislation in Kansas. Peggy
supports this legislation because 47 other states have some type of conceal
and carry legislation. Statistics also show that when citizens are allowed to
defend themselves, violent crime rates decrease.
